Thankful for………………..

Summer 20120045

Day two of expressing thanks for blessings in my life.

I am thankful for my husband, and his wonderful works around our home.

I am thankful for my family; without them I could be very lonely.

I am thankful for wonderful, caring friends who continually encourage and delight me.

Additionally, I am LOVING this weather.  Yes, I know it’s hot – but, hey, it’s summer, and as I am a Canadian winter HATER, I revel in this sunshine and the high temperatures.

Bring it on!

Purposeful Design – Book Review

Purposeful Design written by Jay Schabacker, is a book to grace any coffee table.
Scientists and those with intensely analytical minds, typically favor evolution over creationism. It just makes more sense to them. They argue against an unseen God having constructed all that we see around and above us.

It is only on deeper study of the order in which all things work together, that doubts set in and explanations are sought.

Jay Schabacker was an engineer with the Apollo Moon program. After many calculations and comparisons, he reached the conclusion that there has got to be somebody in control of this universe, of which we are a part. Nothing would work the way it does, if all things progressed individually and chaotically.

He no longer dismisses God. In fact, he admits to a profound love for God, and for this wonderful world in which we live, and shares his thoughts willingly.

He has a greater understanding of the universe, now that he applies the creationism rule.

After intense scrutiny of investigative material and by examining charts of the universe and works of other scientists he developed and published this beautiful book. It will not only be a lovely addition to your coffee table, but will very likely, answer your own questions with it’s ‘what if’ segments.

Definitely an easy book to look at, and to understand.

BE BOLDER GROWIN’ OLDER, by BRUCE LEITER – Book Review

How do you spend your time as you have grown older? I took a good look at myself through this book, as I own up to being a senior.

Do we give of our time and money, to assist others, or do we sit back, grumpily complaining about our situation saying, “let someone else do that.  I’ve done my bit?”  Or, do we embrace every moment with thanksgiving?

We need to realize that if we are guilty of the former comment we are effectively stepping out of life; waiting for the grave.

Old does not mean dead. Aging doesn’t give us permission to be mean or bitter.

Let Bruce Leiter’s treasure chest of suggestions allow you to become bolder, while remaining gracious. Change your mental direction and enjoy life, as you too, follow his humorous quips, question periods, and Bible studies. All of which are presented in easy-to-understand format and meant to improve our minds and hearts, as well as emotionally strengthen us, if we choose to open the pages and read it.

I found this book, not only, entertaining but also educational, once I accepted the suggestions for leading a more contented life. We sometimes, fail to recognize that we are dropping out of life, bit by bit, as tiredness, or ill-health takes over. But, we can change that by reading how to overcome the temptations of old age.

I received a copy of this book free of charge, in exchange for an honest review from http://www.bookcrash.com

Frigid Weather

IMG_3414 IMG_3413 IMG_3411 IMG_3410 IMG_3408 IMG_3407

We are still in the grips of frigid weather.  The temperature is minus 20 degrees celsius, outside.

Thank the Lord, we have not been affected by power cuts, and we do have heat.

I look out the window and am in awe of the spectacular scenes I see.  The trees are clothed in ice; this in turn looks more like crystal as the sun touches them.

feel for all who are suffering because of the cold and darkness, and hope power is restored quickly.  We can pray for them and help whenever, and however we can.

The pictures here demonstrate the ice beauty, they do not convey the trauma of downed trees and power lines, devastating many neighborhoods in Southern Ontario.

Stay safe everyone.

Stay warm.

Seek the comfort of warming centres.

Reach out for any help that is available in your area.

This is no time to be proud and independent.

This cold weather is a life taker.

There is an extreme cold alert in place and it can KILL quickly.

Please be sensible.

Endurance Wins

BookCoverRiksEffort

Winners win, because they refuse to give up.  They push themselves to extraordinary limits in order to accomplish the goal of the race before them.

In Corinth, the Isthmian games demanded that an athlete endure ten months of rigorous training, in order to compete.  Failure to do this, meant there would be no crown and, definitely, no glory.

I began writing my book, A Stolen Childhood, Eleanor’s Story, four years ago.  Today it is available to buy as an e-book but the print version demands strict setup and because I am self-publishing, I am the person responsible for the final preparation.  Writing the book was time-consuming (naturally).  Editing even more so.

My goal was to have a printed page turning paper book in my hands.  This was, and still is, my goal.  The constant need of change to appearance, etc.,make paying large sums to ave it done by somebody else – very appealing.  The challenge is that I do not have large sums of money to use.  SO – I plod on; approaching one print company after another to find one that will give me the prize for which I yearn.  A printed copy of my book – that I did not have take out a mortgage to obtain.

Do I get frustrated?  YES.  Do I want to give up?  YES.  More than I care to admit.  Yet, if I do, all those years of effort are wasted.  Just as an athlete, in Corinth, could be deprived of the crown, I would deprive myself of the sense of accomplishment that holding a paper copy of my book would give me.

This morning I was reading my Bible (1 Corinthians 9:24-27) and the words within those passages caused me to reflect on my efforts.  I have been consumed by dollar thinking, without considering a much greater reward.  The tangible proof of four years of writing, editing, rewriting, setup, and angst.

I want that book in my hands, and so I need to refresh my determination in order to reach that goal.

Do you have an unfinished project, that you just wish you could finish?  Why not bring it out and get back to it – today?
